Dr. Lisa Napolitano, a licensed clinical psychologist in New York and Florida, is board certified in Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology with over 20 years of clinical experience. She specializes in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) with adults. She is the Founder and Director of CBT/DBT Associates, a boutique psychology practice in New York and Florida specializing in evidence-based treatments for adults.
Dr. Napolitano is a Fellow and Certified Trainer and Consultant of the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies, an honor bestowed on less than 200 therapists worldwide for their expertise in cognitive-behavioral therapy. She was a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine where she has taught CBT and DBT to psychiatry residents for 14 years.
Early in her psychology career, she gravitated towards DBT and other mindfulness-based treatments. These approaches squared nicely with her own mindfulness practice and study of Buddhism.
As a former attorney, she has specifically designed her treatment approach and DBT program for attorneys, executives, and other high achievers to manage their stress and work on developing their potential.
Dr. Napolitano is an expert in the treatment of stress, anxiety, worry, and emotion regulation problems. She is co-author of the book Emotion Regulation in Psychotherapy: A Practitioner’s Guide and author of Emotion Regulation in the Obsessive-Compulsive Spectrum Disorders, and Dr. Lisa Says: Words of Wisdom from CBT and DBT. Her research on borderline personality disorder and dichotomous thinking has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international and national conferences.
Dr. Napolitano is the President and Founder of the Florida Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Association. She is also a Founding Fellow and Past Membership Chair of the NYC-CBT. Previously, she served as the Chair of the International Training Committee of the International Association for Cognitive Psychotherapy and as Director of CBT Training in China for the Beijing Suicide Prevention Project.
Dr. Napolitano graduated from Barnard College with an A.B. in political economy and earned her doctorate in clinical psychology at Fordham University. Prior to entering the field of psychology, she graduated cum laude from the Cardozo School of Law. She completed the Goldman Sachs 10K Small Business Program in 2016 and has been a member of Entrepreneurs Organization since 2017. She is currently writing a book on the challenges of finding happiness in a materialistic world.
